Let Pet Wellness Month Start your Pet’s Wellness Life
Posted by Chloe Heaton on
It’s never too late to start providing your pet with a healthy lifestyle to get them to their optimum health. Pet Wellness month is the perfect kickstart to get you thinking about how you can improve your dog’s all-round health and happiness.
Here are some areas that can make a real difference:
Maintain a healthy weight
We all know the power of those puppy dog eyes – just one longing gaze and they’ll have us marching to the treat tin! That is fine but do make sure you reduce the quantity of their main meal to compensate for any treats that you give them - treats shouldn’t account for more than 10% of their daily calories.
Another tip is to weigh their food. Many of us do this the first time we swap to a different food, but then we pour out what we think is the right amount. Without knowing it, we can be overfeeding our dogs, leading them to become overweight.
Nutrition
The old axiom “you are what you eat” applies to dogs as well as humans, so make sure you choose high-quality food and treats.
The Innocent Hound’s high protein, air-dried complete dog food comes in 7 delicious flavours – it’s a great alternative to raw but with the convenience of kibble.
Get them health checked
If you have any health worries about your dog, don’t put it off. Talk to your vet about it and get them checked so you can either put your mind at ease, or get them treated.
Increase exercise or playtime
Dogs don’t always need to have great big walks, but they do need some stimulation. Spend time playing with them and mix it up to keep it fun – hide & seek, sniffari’s or a game of tug – exercise and play makes for a happy hound!
Get into good habits, and keep them going, not just for the month, but for the long term.
Wet noses, big smiles and wagging tails are what The Innocent Hound is all about! We’re passionate about creating moments of joy for you and your hounds.
