Does your feline friend purr with excitement when the fish comes out? Why is that? Cats typically love fish and get ample nutrients from it as a protein. Whether it is salmon, tuna, or crab, cats thoroughly enjoy seafood.

What attracts cats to fish?

When your cat has built up a fondness for fish meals, it's easy to understand why they keep going to them. But how do we explain what makes them like them in the first place? Firstly, the aroma that seafood gives off can attract and excite cats. More profound studies have suggested that cats' taste buds can detect umami flavours, often found in fish.

Cat health benefits from salmon

Salmon has multiple benefits for cats. It is a source of vitamin B12 and can promote brain and nervous system health. The natural Omega-3 fatty acids can support joint health and aid mobility. Any cat food brands worth their salt will appreciate that salmon can do wonders for your British Shorthair!

How about tuna for cats?

If you’re making a tuna pasta dish, it’s common for your pet cat to want to get involved in the kitchen. Even if they don’t want to season the food, they’ll be eager to inspect the tuna can. Giving cats this human-intended tuna is not widely recommended, but tuna cat food from the Innocent Cat can help with coat health.

Crab for cats?

Cat owners might not initially think of crab as a cat food protein, but this seafood option can contribute to a happy and healthy feline. It contains a lot of protein, Omega-3 fatty acids, zinc and selenium. While you might get crab from the fishmonger that often, you can treat your cat to crab as part of our treat range.

How to store Cat Food

When does cat food expire? We recommend placing the food in a cool, dark place in your house. The food has a 12-month shelf life, according to the production data. Once you have opened the packet, if stored optimally, the product will remain fresh for up to eight weeks. If you wish to decant the product into a cat food storage container, you may do so; however, this may impede its freshness and longevity.

Are cat food sachets recyclable? Our packaging for the Innocent Cat and Innocent Hound is 100% recyclable!
