Turmeric – Popular with Humans but what about Hounds?

Posted by Tracy Morgan on

What is Turmeric?

Turmeric is a yellow-orange coloured spice with a deep and earthy flavour commonly used in Asian cooking and it has some great health benefits for both humans and hounds. In fact, there are over 6000 studies that support the benefits of having turmeric in your dog’s diet.

What is Curcumin?

Curcumin is the main ingredient that gives turmeric its antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and plays a huge part in strengthening your dog's immune system.

Health Benefits of Turmeric:

Anti-inflammatory

Turmeric has long been used as an anti-inflammatory product for humans and it is just as effective in hounds. Inflammation is linked to a range of diseases, so an anti-inflammatory can help to improve your dog’s overall health and reduce the chance of developing serious illnesses in later life.

Powerful antioxidant

Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants are known for increasing life span, slowing down ageing and degeneration.

Help with gastrointestinal disorders

Turmeric has been shown to help with gastrointestinal disorders in dogs including irritable bowel disease.

Help prevent cancer

Inflammation is also linked to the development of cancer. Curcumin can help stop the pre-cancerous stage in your dog's body to act as a preventative therapy to keep them healthy.

Reduce arthritis pain

As dogs gets older their joints become more vulnerable to inflammation and weakness. The anti-inflammatory component of turmeric can provide significant pain relief and can reduce swelling and stiffness. This can help improve their movement during the day and help them sleep more comfortably at night.

We all want our Innocent Hounds to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible. Turmeric can act as a preventative therapy to alleviate pain, fight off illness and promote good health.
