At The Innocent Hound, we believe that good food takes time. Since 2013, we’ve been crafting our recipes using a slow, low-temperature air-drying process - one that preserves the natural goodness of ingredients while delivering a convenient, ready-to-serve food and treats for your pets.
When we first started, air-dried pet food was almost unheard of. In recent years, it’s become more common, which we love to see. But it’s worth knowing that not all air-drying processes are created equal.
Some processes use high heat, drying food in as little as 12 hours at temperatures around 90°C. While faster, these higher temperatures can affect the structure of proteins, reduce nutrient availability, and change the natural taste and texture of the food.
Our Slow, Gentle Approach
Every batch we make begins with high-quality British raw meat and is carefully blended with other ingredients according to our recipes. It’s then shaped, racked, and placed in our dryers for up to seven days, never exceeding 40°C.
By drying slowly and at cool temperatures, we help maintain the integrity of proteins, fats, and naturally occurring nutrients. The gentle evaporation process locks in flavour and aroma, resulting in a food that’s naturally appetising and nutritionally rich. It’s as close to nature as possible while being extremely convenient for busy dog owners.

Higher drying temperatures can begin to ‘cook’ the food, altering protein structure and reducing the availability of heat-sensitive vitamins and amino acids. By keeping our temperatures below 40°C, we preserve these essential nutrients, keeping the food closer to its natural state and deliver a food that pets genuinely enjoy eating.
