Best dog walks in Nottingham
Posted by Warren Smith on
Are you a resident of Nottingham, just like Robin Hood was? Or are you simply visiting the area for the day? Either way, if you’re taking your dog to Nottingham, you’ll probably want to know about the best spots and routes to take your pooch for a walk. Here are some of the best routes for you to consider.
Wilford Riverside Walk
The River Trent runs through several parts of Nottingham and skirts across the city centre. One of the most accessible areas is the Wilford Riverside Walk near West Bridgford. This area combines the natural beauty of water and dry land and can be observed from above via the Wilford Footbridge or Wilford Suspension Bridge.
Dog walkers can follow a circular route, seeing it from both sides or, after finishing the Riverside Walk, they can head to either West Bridgford or Nottingham City Centre.
Wollaton Hall and Wollaton Park

Those wanting to indulge in history and a terrific green space can rely on Wollaton Hall and the surrounding green space known as Wollaton Park. Even if you’ve never been to this site, you’ve likely seen it as the grounds were used in the Dark Knight Rises. Dog walkers can enjoy seeing where Batman stood or even sit by the serene lake.
Wild deer wander the grounds, so dogs must be kept on a lead and under control. Dogs seen to be posing a threat or worrying deer can be subject to hefty financial fines.
Beeston Marina to Attenborough Nature Reserve
Dog walkers looking for bountiful nature should look no further than the route from Beeston Marina to Attenborough Nature Reserve. If your dog likes the hallmarks of the outdoors, they’ll love it here as the route follows the River Trent along a green path from two Nottinghamshire towns.
Beeston Marina is precisely what it sounds like: a place with moorings for many types of boats, including narrow boats, cruisers, and wide beams, which can be pleasant to observe. The other end is also a charming, nature-rich area with a café and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the wildlife.
The Arboretum in the City Centre
Finding a green space in Nottingham City Centre can be difficult, as most cities have buildings and an intricate traffic system with the Nottingham tram service intersecting with the roads. However, the Arboretum offers a decent green space for visitors to enjoy, away from very busy Nottingham railway station area.
The park dates back to 1852 and is considered Nottingham’s oldest and closest to the city centre. It’s a true nature lover's city centre with over 800 trees on the Arboretum grounds and many different colourful flowers blooming in the warmer months. Maybe Fido isn’t that keen on the plants, but they would like a little treat while you observe nature.
Beeston to Nottingham City Centre Canal Walk

If you and your dog are looking for a more extended escapade, a waltz from Beeston to Nottingham is more than pleasant on the Canal. This five-mile route starts at Beeston Lock and takes dog walkers right into the city centre by Nottingham station, passing hobbyist fishermen reading the Nottingham Post News along the way.
The path makes completing this track easy for people and dogs of all abilities. Many benches along the way assist if you or your dog want a break. It also offers a significant juncture to give them a mid-walk snack, like one of our Salmon Bites with Sweet Potato.
Choosing the right fuel for a dog walk
Before departing for your next dog walk in Nottingham, it’s essential to ensure that your dog has the right fuel for the upcoming jaunt, whether a small stroll or an extended expedition.
