Best dog walks in Leeds
Posted by Warren Smith on
Our Yorkshire factory and office space are in Wetherby, a sub-district of Leeds with an LS postcode. We know multiple fantastic dog-walking routes in and around Leeds. Whether you live in the area or are simply visiting, check out our recommendations for your next walk in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
Kirkstall Abbey

Kirkstall has the distinction of having its Cistercian monastery dating back to 1152! History lovers and dog walkers alike can enjoy the views of these ruins. The path around the grounds is incredibly accessible for all abilities and paws that tire quickly. Multiple laps around Kirkstall Abbey and a stop at the café will make for a terrific day out for you and your pup, especially if you give them some of our healthy dog treats.
Roundhay Park

Roundhay Park is one of West Yorkshire’s most significant green spaces on the northeast edge of the city. This large urban park has over 700 acres filled with woodlands, gardens and numerous picnic spots; it’s easy to see why dog walkers flock to Roundhay Park here.
The Victorian Summer house by the lake is ideal for stopping and watching the world go by. Of course, your pooch might want to indulge in a little snack while resting here. You can reach towards your bag for the Salmon and Sweet Potato Bites to reward them for being good doggo.
Park Square

Leeds city centre isn’t known for too many green spaces - but Park Square offers a slight reprieve for city slickers who want a dash of nature. Your Sapsali breed dog will love this inner-city park as a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and traffic going towards Leeds Direct Arena for music concerts. This Georgian public square might not offer the longest dog-walking route in Leeds, but a few laps of this square will earn them a treat or two.
Golden Acre Park
Outside the city centre sits Golden Acre Park, a luscious green space between the twins of Bramhope and Adel, on Otley Road. Woodland, lakes, and various streams make up an area of natural wonder you and your dog will enjoy exploring. Many people will state that Golden Acre is the most beautiful in the Autumn owing to the colours of the fallen leaves being especially eye-catching. However, your dog or puppy will most likely enjoy it in all seasons.
Horsforth Hall Park
Horsforth is a smaller town north of Leeds, but it has a decent-sized park, Horsforth Hall Park, managed by Leeds City Council. It is a great community space and buzzes with activity in the summer months. One notable absence is the aforementioned Horsforth Hall. The park took its name from the structure, but it was knocked down in 1953, twenty years after it opened!
The park's circular shape lends itself to dog-walking routes. You can take your Tornjak or Welsh Terrier on multiple laps of the bandstand and then head home. Of course, they might want a little treat during the walk.
Leeds-Liverpool Canal

If you and your pup want a longer walk, the Leeds-Liverpool canal is an ideal route. Starting at Leeds City Centre, this route goes to Kirstall and beyond. The tree-lined path goes into Horsforth and even as far as Rodley. Of course, the canal extends from Leeds to destinations like Saltaire, Skipton, and Liverpool.
Be sure to watch for Leeds United players. Some have been known to live in the luxury apartments on the canal and can be seen when they aren’t training for Leeds United fixtures.
Whichever route you wish to take, be sure to fuel your dog with the right food so that they can keep navigating this expedition. Our food here at the Innocent Hound is just the meal for these longer walks. Handcrafted in our bespoke Yorkshire factory, our food is single-protein and grain-free, meaning your dog only gets the best meal ingredients.
